How it all began...
It seems like it's taken me literally years to get to this point in my life. Which point you ask? The point where I have accepted that caring about color, style, fashion and wanting to show up in the world as my best, isn't vain. Ouch! Yes, I said the word vain. For years & years, I have heard from many close to me that I was good at putting outfits together, decorating my home etc. I kept pushing those comments/compliments aside thinking "If I were a good Christian woman, I wouldn't care about those things & certainly not make a job out of it." Then Dec. 2020 happened. The Lord started to reveal to me that I have a gift- a gift of helping. I was introduced to coaching by a friend and became a mental health aware coach through Light University. Then I was introduced to Culture Impact and Sept. 2022 I walked away from my 19.5 year job & I began the journey of getting my certification in coaching...and I don't mean basketball. Coaching is the conversation skill of empowering people to change without telling them what to do. Unlike counseling which looks at the past; coaching looks to the future. I wanted to help people move forward. I was moving forward, doesn't everyone want to move forward? However, after completing all the requirements & I was officially certified July 8, 2023, I struggled with attracting clients. It became very evident that people in my area didn't understand what coaching was nor, did they find the benefit in it. My reach was not very wide as I wasn't into networking much in my previous job. I was in accounts payable at a small NWIA community college so networking wasn't really on my radar. Finding my niche & attracting those in that niche was tough. So I took on small jobs just to get me out of the house. One was doing ironing for the elderly. Another was 6 weeks of delivering mail around a company campus. Lastly, I worked 15 months at a non-profit. I learned a lot about working with others, being under authority again and not completely feeling at home in my role there led to conflict and eventually parting of ways. During the last couple months while working at the non-profit, early December 2024, I received an email from Style by Color. I was introduced to SBC in March 2024. I was in a stage of my health & weight loss journey that I needed to start purchasing smaller clothing. I had signed up for a 15 minute color pop-up at my local boutique. The timing of this appointment made a huge impact on my weight loss journey. Not only was my body changing but now I found out I was wearing all these colors that weren't my BEST. I was a sponge & soaked in every word my consultant told me that day. I literally had to get rid of every piece of clothing as I was a size 18/XXL and was now a size 9, S/M but also my color code was so different from anything I had been wearing. But I trusted her & went "ALL IN!" For the next 8 months I thought "Should I become a Style by Color consultant? Is this what you are calling me to, LORD? Would this help my coaching business? I mean, it's like coaching...helping women find their BEST in color & in style." For 8 months, every time I received an email from SBC, those thoughts crept in. I often raved on my socials about how SBC helped change my life on & even sharing posts when my consultant was going to be doing another pop-up in my area. I believed in the work she was doing, the information she was sharing & empowering women with. So why not me too? Then early December 2024 the email arrived. The email explained how color & style training were no longer going to be 2 separate trainings but be one in 2025. Plus the prices was going to increase. The catch was, if you sign up for color training in Dec. 2024, they offered styling in Jan. 2024 at a discount. I knew this was my chance. My chance to become a CIC- a Certified Image Consultant- at a nice price before the increase. I immediately signed up. And as they say, the rest is history...
So this is how I got here. It definitely has not been easy. Lots of bends in the roads, closed windows/doors but also many good learning experiences and a whole lot of praying. But you know what? I am grateful for it all. All of it helped me grow and be my best for you. Don't get me wrong, I am still becoming as we never fully arrive. But I learned something from each job, every interaction with new people, each no, each crazy look of "your doing what??" Because now I believe I am finally where I am suppose to be. I am aligned with the Lord and that is my prayer every day "Help me to stay aligned with YOU." I ask Him to open doors & help me be a vessel for Him. I empower women to move from uncertainity to confidence with my radiant & engaging coaching style. And since those certifications I have gone on to come a Certified 27 Hanger Closet Coach.
We all have a story. We all have a "How it all began." If you are in the middle of it, keep going. God's got a plan much bigger then I could have ever planned for myself and He has that for you too.
